Iconic American brand Jeep has unveiled 2011 versions of its most compact model – the Patriot.
Styling changes inside and out plus some suspension improvements highlight the upgrades – the interior enhancements in particular bringing a more contemporary feel for Jeep’s competent compact.
And with only minor price increases (starting at $30,000), the new Patriot shapes as a worthy America-style rival for vehicles like the Nissan X-TRAIL (starting price $28,490), Toyota RAV (starting price $28,990) and Mitsubishi Outlander (starting price $28,990).
The model range is again the entry-level Patriot Sport (five-speed manual or CVT automatic with six-speed manual mode), then the Patriot Limited while the range-topper is the Patriot Limited 70th Anniversary.
No changes under the bonnet – Jeep’s 2.4-litre, four-cylinder is good for 125kW/220Nm and returns combined cycle fuel economy of 8.4l/100kms.
On the outside are new front and rear treatments, a modernized grille (but still the classic Jeep seven-slot design), revised side mouldings and new 17-inch alloy wheels. A revised skidplate surrounds the front fog-lights and all-up Jeep says the revised look gives the latest patriot a more aggressive look in keeping with its hallmark go-anywhere off-road ability.
Inside, major modernization has provided the latest Jeep Patriot a more refined, premium feel, highlighted by better quality materials (colour choice is Dark Slate Grey or Light Pebble Beige). In addition there are new trim panels, a new steering wheel with radio, cruise-control and hands-free telephone controls and modern backlighting for switches.
Of course the legendary Jeep off-road equipment is maintained – all models running Freedom Drive, fulltime active 4x4.
The Jeep Patriot is manufactured in North America at the Jeep plant in Belvidere, Illinois.

Patriot Sport (CVT automatic) $32,000
