Korean marque Kia were pleasantly surprised by the warm reception received by its Picanto AO Edition that they’ve made it a permanent fixture in the lineup of the popular microcar. Dubbed the X-Line, the variant offers a more crossover-like look & feel for those who’d like that sort of thing from their Picanto.
What’s interesting is that the Picanto, despite being in a shrinking segment, its appeal has widened to the point where it’s ultimately available in four different variants. And while the base S and higher X-Line models are available in either 5MT or 4AT configurations, the GT-Line is only available as an automatic, while the proper GT turbo is a manual-only proposition.
But a new option is coming for the Picanto lineup soon it seems, or so it was confirmed by Kia’s communications boss to our friends at CarAdvice when asked if the lineup would expand any further.
“There are plans underway for a manual gearbox for the GT-Line. An official announcement will be out in due time.” – Kevin Hepworth, General Manager (Media & Corporate Communications), Kia Australia
