Kia Australia has rolled out an updated version of the Soul - that quirky little crossover from your other favourite Korean manufacturer - which, cleverly, receives a lower price tag to accompany the revised styling and equipment list.
The new Soul now has a driveaway price of $24,990, a healthy amount lower than where it stood previously: $26,990 plus on-road costs. It’s metallic paint option has been lowered in to $520. However, that price is only available as a single colour.
For two-tone metallic exterior finishes, Kia charges $390 extra for a Clear White body with Red roof while the Inferno Red and Black two-tone metallic paint is a $910 premium.
There more substantial alterations to the Soul’s visuals, though, besides paintwork. 2017 models receives styling changes to its radiator grille, bumper, fog lamps, reflectors, and a new design of alloy wheels. Inside, we have a sharpened dash layout, new cloth trim and seat covering, as well as an upgraded infotainment screen at 5.0-inches
“Even the best can do with a helping hand from time to time, and for Soul the 2017 adjustments are just that _ a bit of a boost for what is an excellent vehicle,” Kia Motors Australia Chief Operating Officer Damien Meredith said. “The Soul certainly deserves greater recognition than it has enjoyed and with the preferred SUV-like seating position, a willing 2.0-litre engine, a 6-speed automatic and clever interior space we believe it has a strong future in Australia.”
Under the bonnet we find the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine as was fitted previously, producing 113kW and 191Nm of torque that’s mated to a 6-speed automatic. It’s a capable of sipping as little as 8.4-litres/100km, according to the automaker’s estimates.
Just like all other new Kia models, buyers of the 2017 Soul will receive a 7-year vehicle warranty along with 7-years of capped price servicing and is eligible for 7-years of roadside assist service.
