Kia Motors Australia has announced the addition of a new Stinger variant to the local range called the Carbon Edition. Priced at $67,990 driveaway and based on the top rung Stinger GT, it will slot in just ahead of it as long as the automaker keeps the limited run going, marking a $7,200 premium.
It mimics the ‘Federation’ orange look and borrows the carbon fibre trimmings of the limited run all-wheel driven Stinger GTS that premiered earlier this year at the 2019 New York Motor Show, but eschews the four-corner traction in favour of the familiar rear-driven layout.
As you might have expected, the extra spend you’ll need for the Carbon Edition is spent on the actual carbon fibre pieces now fitted to the car’s exterior and interior. These include high gloss carbon replacements for the standard bonnet vents, ‘tiger nose’ grille surround, side mirror housing, rear diffuser, and fender air vents.
Inside, the treatment is less pronounced, relegated to a ‘Carbon Edition’ badge just ahead of the gear selector and a new steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara. All the other fixtures remain as they were on the Stinger GT, however, including the satin metallic trim, black leather seats, and a soft touch dashboard material.
Premium features of the GT still remain, thankfully, such as the 15-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system, wireless smartphone charging pad, powered panoramic sunroof, and an 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Under the bonnet, the Carbon Edition is also mechanically identical to the GT, sporting a twin-turbocharged 3.3-litre V6 delivering 272kW and 510Nm. As previously mentioned, and unlike the North American-market all-wheel drive GTS, drive is sent exclusively rearward through an 8-speed automatic.
The Stinger GT Carbon Edition will be available in Neon Orange, Micro Blue, Hichroma Red, Snow White Pearl and Aurora Black.
