Six months away and already the talk of the town.

Swedish carmakers Koenigsegg are preparing the next instalment in their relatively short history, with a new model set to arrive soon to replace the Agera supercar as the mainstay of the brand. Rumours have circulated suggesting that the new model will pack no less than 1,000kW and might even be able to hit 400km/h in just 14-seconds.

And now this monstrous Swedish machine has been given a name. ‘Ragnarok,’ just like that Marvel movie where Thor & the Hulk beat the crap out of each other, as well as that massive online multiplayer game that used to be ridiculously popular.

In Norse mythology, ‘Ragnarok’ refers to an event where the world as we know it is destroyed, taking with it Norse gods & goddesses and leaving a vacuum in its wake. That’s a pretty major thing to be naming your car after, so we guess it’s a good thing its biturbo V8 has so much grunt.

The Ragnarok, a name that The Supercar Blog is quite confident about, will apparently be quite the machine, if comments from the boss are anything to go by:

“We are refining it, making it a little bit lighter, a little bit stronger… the thing with that engine is that there’s seemingly no end to what we can do with it. We polish it out, we open it up, and suddenly we have [15kW] or [22kW] more horsepower, and it’s even stronger and more reliable. It’s fascinating how capable the structure is.” — Christian von Koenigsegg, Founder & CEO, Koenigsegg

The Ragnarok, if is indeed its name, will not only mark a stark improvement and upgrade in terms of performance, but it’ll also mark a departure from the assumed naming convention. While Koenigsegg as a brand debuted with the CC family of cars, we thought that with the Agera and the following Regera that ‘era’ would be a suffix to be found on future cars. Evidently not.

With the full public reveal set for the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, we’ll have to wait just a little bit longer to glean some concrete details on this latest creation by the Swedish marque. But you can rest assured that CarShowroom will bring you all the details as they come.
