Big claims…
It’s being reported that Italian supercar marque Lamborghini not only has a petrol-electric hybrid in development, but that it’ll be ready in time for the September Frankfurt motor show. The Lamborghini hybrid will be indicative of Sant’Agatas strategy insofar as electrification is concerned, and how the next-generation Aventador will be motivated.
This first-hybrid Lamborghini has been dubbed internally as the ‘LB48H,’ and it’ll borrow styling cues from the Terzo Millenio EV show car. Drivetrain-wise, the company will pair a V12 petrol mill with an electric motor, with power going to the rear wheels.
Speaking to Motoring, Lamborghini commercial boss Federico Foschini said that the LB48H “is not yet officially disclosed, but it’s in keeping with the early stage of the limited runs” by the company.
“So we had the Reventon, the Veneno, the Centenario… and now we have this car [the LB48H]. This is the technical name, but we’re not yet revealing the final name. This car is really a huge product for Lamborghini.” – Federico Foschini, Chief Commercial Officer, Lamborghini
Only 63 LB48H special editions will be made, marking the year that Lamborghini was founded (1963), with all models pre-sold as early as July last year. For those who may have already missed out on the opportunity to buy one, not to worry: The LB48H teases the powertrain of the next-generation Aventador, which will no doubt be made in far more voluminous numbers.
In addition to the LB48H, Foschini says that there is “a surprise” coming from the Italian company at the Frankfurt show, which a bit of intelligence suggests will likely be the Lamborghini Urus plug-in hybrid, a car that sounds sacrilegious because it is, but also pretty exciting as a prospect. It’ll be great to see how the company intends to tackle the unavoidable wave of electrification without losing its all-important brand identity & driving experience.
