The world’s first SUV with intelligent start/stop engine technology

Land Rover claims the new model is the world’s first SUV with intelligent start/stop engine technology (the engine shuts down when stationary at traffic lights etc).

The result is combined cycle fuel economy down by 21 per cent to 6.7l/100kms and CO2 emissions down by 20 per cent to 179g/km – the greenest Land Rover ever.

Jaguar Land Rover is – like all automakers – making substantial investments in sustainable technologies and the Freelander 2 TD4_e is the first application of the company’s green technology roadmap called e_TERRAIN TECHNOLOGIES.

Naturally Land Rover has engineered the Start/Stop system so that it doesn’t compromise the Freelander’s operations in tough conditions – such as when the external temperature is below four degrees or above 35 degrees and when off-road systems such as Hill Descent Control or a Terrain Response program are selected.

Inside there is a gearshift indicator light which advises the driver to change gear when a higher gear will allow the vehicle to operate more fuel-efficiently.

The Freelander 2 TD_e is also the first Land Rover to comply with the upcoming European Union (EU) legislative requirements for End of Life vehicle certification. Up to 85 per cent of the vehicle is recyclable and 95 per cent is re-usable.

Sticker price for the new greener Freelander 2 TD4_e is $45,590.
