Lexus is celebrating its 30th birthday and to commemorate this occasion the brand has rolled out a special edition called the Inspiration Series. Back in July, Lexus chose to show it off on the very model to carry the Lexus name in 1989, the LS.
Sadly, the company says that the global supply of the Lexus Inspiration Series will be tightly controlled with fewer than 10 units of the limited edition LSs ever touching Australian soil. The LS500 sells for $198,922 while the electrified variant will set you back $199,505.
It is based on the LS Sports Luxury variant and will be available in Khaki Metal green for the first time and is offered in Sonic Quartz, Liquid Metal and Scarlet Crimson colour options along with 20-inch Dark Vapor alloy wheels.
The interior of the Inspiration Series, while not radically different from the standard LS, does include the Kiriko laser-cut glass ornamentation across the passenger side dashboard featuring an engraved “30th Anniversary” signature backed by blue illumination.
The heated and ventilated seats (22-way power adjustable at the back) are upholstered in chestnut semi-aniline leather while the doors get Nobel Brown fabric trim along with walnut laser-etched Lexus insignia ornamentation.
The Inspiration Series LS gets a 12.3-inch screen that displays all manner of infotainment in the dashboard featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, it gets a 23-speaker Mark Levinson stereo with two 11.6-inch entertainment screens for the rear passengers.
The drivetrain in the Lexus LS500 and LS500h remain untouched over the standard offering. The former gets a 2GR-FKS 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 with 310kW and 600Nm routed through a 10-speed automatic transmission. The latter is an 8GR-FXS lump with 220kW and 350Nm teamed up with a 132kW and 300Nm electric motor for a combined system output of 264kW and channeled to the ground via a multi-stage hybrid transmission that works like a 10-speed box.
Along with the Inspiration Series, the suspension system on the entire LS range has been revised to include the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS). Finally, the Lexus Safety System+ has also been updated to include lane tracing assist, parking support brake system and rear cross-traffic alert.
