This really looks bonkers, doesn’t it?
Japanese marque Lexus, known for their fastidious attention to detail, bulletproof reliability and breathtakingly smooth rides, have announced a Track Edition of their already-nuts RC F sports car, which goes to great lengths to improve the driving experience (and likely with dramatic effect). Certainly, huge improvements would have to be made, considering that Lexus wants to charge you $165,690 for the luxury of taking an RC F Track Edition home.
The company assures that this is “a serious performance car for the track with the luxury & craftsmanship of a Lexus,” but we’re inclined to disagree. This looks like an absolute monster that’s been made for the track, for better or worse. Giving this off are the carbon fibre bits, like the roof, bonnet, spoiler, and front air-dam, as well as the lightweight 19-inch alloy wheels. As you can probably tell the primary focus of this car is to reduce weight, and Lexus preliminarily estimates a reduction of 65kg.
The interior sees a variety of updates, with red leather upholstery wrapped around red Alcantara seats. There’s even red carbon fibre, applied to the doors & dash. This then is the perfect place to sit as you harness the mechanically-unchanged 5.0-litre V8, and the 351kW and 530Nm that it has to offer. While there are no mechanical changes, there are more rigid engine mounts, a modified intake routing, and a lower RPM trigger point for the secondary intake opening.
The RC F Track Edition benefits from the same aesthetic upgrades as the recently-facelifted RC range, so there are new LED headlights with integrated daytime running lights, an opening in the lower-half of the spindle grille, reprofiled rear bumper, and new taillights. Locally, the RC F Track Edition will be available in either white, silver, black, or matte grey hues for the exterior finish.
Lexus Australia has confirmed to the media that the RC F and the RC F Track Edition will be on our shores in May, and while the price has been confirmed, the specifications could change between now and when it gets here. That said this is a special edition, which means that it’s likely there will be absolutely no changes from this debut to its later arrival.
