For Japanese marque Lexus, their compact NX crossover is the most popular model in the local lineup by a pretty large margin. The NX’s combination of sharp looks, respectable handling, quality interior and bulletproof (presumed) reliability means that it’s quite the overall package – but with interest waning, the company’s fielded some updates to the little looker to keep it fighting-fit against the competition.

For MY19, the NX gains Lexus Safety System+ which allows the NX to compete confidently against newcomers like the Volvo XC40 and Range Rover Evoque with greater confidence. Included in that safety system are things like adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assistant, AEB with cyclist detection, lane tracing assist (which follows the movement of the vehicle in front when road line markings aren’t clear).

You also get things like road-sign assist, which help display relevant information on the driver’s information display or the heads-up display (if applicable), as well as a new low-speed AEB that helps when parking by engaging the brakes should the sensors detect an imminent collision.

Of course these are all supplementary to the systems already fitted to the NX, like blind-spot monitoring, reversing camera, rear cross-traffic alert, tyre-pressure monitoring, auto high-beam, and trailer-sway control.

The NX will continue to be available as either an NX300 or NX300h, with either in Luxury, F-Sport, or Sports Luxury trims. NX300 models continue to find motivation from a 175kW/350Nm 2.0-litre 4-pot turbo-petrol, while the NX300h marries a 2.5-litre atmo 4-pot petrol to an electric motor (or two for 4-paw models), with rated total output claimed at 147kW.

Prices for the NX are up a little bit, by $600 to be exact, over the model it replaces.

Model NX300 NX300h
Luxury $55,400 $57,900
Luxury AWD $59,900 $62,400
F-Sport $61,400 $63,900
F-Sport AWD $65,852 $68,400
Sports Luxury AWD $74,029 $76,900
