Looks like the Tesla Roadster has a playmate.
It’s been two years since the burgeoning Geely Group took a controlling stake in Lotus, and it’s been relatively quiet in Norfolk since. Aside from producing what felt like one special edition Exige or Evora out every month, the company’s also returned to profit. And as a result of it making money, it’s now getting on with producing its first new model in 11-years. It’s called the Type 130 and boy, does it move the game on for Lotus
For one, it’s fully electric. Which means that our assumptions were right when Group Lotus PLC signed an agreement to work with Williams Advanced Engineering recently. Second, it’s the first all-new model from the brand with Geely money, meaning an altogether better quality product than we’re used to seeing from the brand.
The thing is, while we’d love to wax lyrical about Lotus’ return to form and ever-bright future, Lotus has only revealed one image of what appears to be a bit of the Type 130 in smoke-form. We don’t know anything about the powertrain, cabin layout (could it be a GT or a proper sports car?), or even the price. All we know is that the full reveal is scheduled for later this year in London, where we’ll learn a lot more about the new era of Lotus.
We’re excited. Are you?
