A Lamborghini which has won performance car accolades on both sides of the Atlantic will make its first Australian appearance in open-top form at the Melbourne Motor Show.
Lamborghini's Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder will be the Italian supercar star of the Show, shown beside its coupe running mate and the mighty Murcielago LP640.
CAR magazine in the UK recently declared the LP560-4 coupe its Performance Car of The Year, shortly after it won Road & Track magazines Ultimate Track Test in the USA.
The Murcielago LP640 also enjoys special status at Australia's only motor show for 2009, being the fastest and most expensive car on show, with a price tag over $750,000 and a top speed of at least 330 km/h.
The LP560-4 is the latest development of the Gallardo, the best selling Lamborghini of all time, offering the performance and handling of the Coupe with the open air pleasure of a soft-top sports car.
Improvements in the Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder include a lighter transmission, a new 5.2 litre V10 engine, new suspension and a revised permanent all-wheel-drive system.
The LP560-4 Spyder goes from 0 to 100km/h in 4.0 seconds and has a top speed of 324 km/h, and yet has improved fuel consumption and an 18 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions.
Another very special car will remind supercar enthusiasts that Lamborghini created the world's first mid-engined road-going supercar more than 40 years ago when it launched the P400 Miura.
A privately owned Lamborghini Miura has been selected for the 75th Melbourne Motor Show Historic Tribute display, along with a rare few of the most significant cars of past Motor Shows.
Not only did Lamborghini stun the motoring world with the Miura in 1966, but it continues to stun with the Miura's direct descendants, the Gallardo and Murcielago.
Melbourne International Motor Show runs from 27 February to 9 March at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre and is organised and promoted by the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce through its dealer division the Australian Automobile Dealers Association (Vic).
