BMW UK has launched the upgraded 6 Series Coupe lineup with a choice of two turbocharged engines – six-cylinder and twin-turbo V8 – and a twin-turbocharged diesel.
According to BMW, the 235kW/630Nm, six-cylinder, twin-turbocharged 640d is the world’s sportiest diesel, sprinting from zero to 100km/h in around 5.5-seconds. However combined cycle fuel consumption of only 4.6l/100kms and exhaust emissions of only 145g/km stamp this 2+2 coupe as highly efficient as well as fast.
The BMW 650i employs the familiar 4.4-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine with 300kW/600Nm, while the single turbocharged six-cylinder 640i delivers 240kW/450Nm.
All engines use BMW’s eight-speed automatic transmission.
While evolutionary, the styling of the new BMW 6 Series Coupe is again breathtakingly beautiful with the familiar long bonnet no matched by powerful wheel arches and deeply contoured bonnet to highlight a more powerful on-road stance.
The newcomer is actually 74mm longer, 5.0mm lower and 39mm wider than the current model (wheelbase to has grown – to 2855mm). It also sits 50mm lower to the ground.
Inside, space has been boosted, there’s new lightweight seats with an integrated seat belt and Easy-Entry system for access to the rear. Boot capacity is 460-litres (or three golf bags for the U.S. and Japanese markets).
BMW Group Australia is yet to announce local details of the new 6 Series Coupe.
