Fastest man to be towed on a snowboard.
If you’re interested in cars, this article likely won’t appeal to you. The Maserati Levante S, famed for its Ferrari-developed engine and questionable build quality, has assisted a man in achieving a new land-speed world record for the fastest man on a snowboard being towed by a motor vehicle (rolls of the tongue, doesn’t it).
Jamie Barrow, described as a “British snowboard sensation,” previously held the title of the fastest man on a snowboard towed by a motor vehicle when he achieved a top speed of 99.871km/h in February 2016, hitched to the back of an all-wheel drive Mitsubishi ASX. Now as dependable as the Mitsubishi is, it’s not exactly known for its nuclear power plant of an engine, so Barrow opted for something a bit more… brawny, for this second run at the title.
A frozen lake in St. Moritz, Switzerland served as the stage on which the record was set, and a Maserati Levante S was utilised as the tow car. The Maserati Levante S was given a set of Pirelli Scorpion winter tyres, replete with 474 studs on each wheel, to maximise traction for the run.
The Maserati proved more than capable of demolishing Barrow’s previous record, with two runs (as required for Guinness record attempts) providing an average speed of 149.65km/h, beating his previous record by about 50km/h.

For the uninitiated, the Maserati Levante S gets its power from a 3.0-litre biturbo V6 mill developed by Ferrari, which puts out a not-inconsiderable 316kW and 580Nm, sending power to all-four wheels via a Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system. You can read our review of the Maserati Levante here.
