A very, very limited run of high-performance SUVs.
Italian firm Maserati have released a new special-edition of their massively-successful Levante SUV, dubbed the ‘Vulcano.’ While it’s based on the Levante GranSport, the Vulcano commands quite a bit of a premium for a touch of exclusivity, particularly in Australia: Only 150 Vulcanos will be made, and only 7 are coming to Australia.
The Vulcano is distinguished on the outside by the matte Grigio Lava paint, broken up by 21-inch ‘Helios’ dual-tone wheels and red Brembo brake callipers. Additionally, all the exterior trim have been given the ‘Nerissimo Collection’ treatment, which means smoked taillights, black chrome for the grille & logos, body-coloured door handles, burnished exhaust finishers, and high-gloss black window surrounds.
As you step inside, you’re greeted by Pieno Fiore leather that can be had in either red or black, with whichever colour you don’t opt for used for the contrast stitching. The front seats are heated & ventilated, and electrically adjustable with memory settings. You also get contrast-hued Trident logos stitched into the headrests, high-gloss carbon-fibre, and a chromed badge on the centre console that reads ‘One of 150.’
The cabin also gets LED matrix headlights, soft-close doors, all-round parking sensors, and a Bowers & Wilkins audio system.
Under the bonnet lives a 3.0-litre biturbo V6 petrol engine, producing a heady 257kW and 500Nm. The century sprint is dispatched in just 6.0-seconds, and V-max is rated at 251km/h.
For the luxury of bringing home one of these ultra-rare SUVs, Maserati will relieve you of $184,990 before delivery costs and so on. Shame the Levante is a pretty lukewarm experience to drive, but perhaps this rarity improves the situation somewhat.
