Dear Maserati, this isn’t what we mean by self-driving cars…
If you happen to own or happen to know someone who owns a latest generation of Maserati sedan, the Quattroporte or Ghibli, then this should probably be cause for some concern.
You see, Maserati North America has issued a recall concerning over 28,000 examples of both these models pertaining to the floor mats. That’s right, the floor mats. Apparently, they can become trapped between the accelerator and the the vehicle carpet. Once its nicely wedged in there, it may impede the driver’s input to the loud pedal.
Consequence: you’ll end up going a fair bit faster than you wanted to in normal driving.
This recall was issued to North American owners of the Quattroporte and Ghilbi (model year 2014 to 2016) but it wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine a similar issue cropping up with units sold elsewhere in the world. After all, we’re pretty sure the floor mats stay consistent between countries.
If you happen to be in the US, your nearest Maserati dealer will replace the floor mats with non-impeding ones free of charge. Just make sure to drive over there slowly.
