Mazda, amidst this global pandemic, is celebrating its centenary since its foundation on January 30th 1920. The Hiroshima-based company started out as a cork manufacturer under the name Toyo Cork Kogyo Co., LTD, and by 1931, had moved into manufacturing its three-wheeled truck. By 1960, Mazda had introduced its first proper passenger car – the R360 Coupe.
We reckon the rest is history though. A hundred years down the line and Mazda is putting out its 100th Anniversary Special Edition models – which was supposed to be unveiled at the now cancelled Geneva Motor Show – with a colour scheme that pays tribute to the R360 Coupe.
The little Coupe that could sported a white and burgundy colour combination and that’s exactly how the 2020 special editions are going to look as well. The two-tone colour combo will be applied to the Mazda MX-5, Mazda2, Mazda3, Mazda6, CX-3, CX-30, CX-5, CX-8 and CX-9 models – all of which are destined for Australia.
The abovementioned models will sport a Snowflake White Pearl Mica-painted exterior while the interior is wrapped in Burgundy leather. The interior also get Burgundy floor mats and carpets. Models are also distinguished by its 100th Anniversary Special Edition badging, which combines the current Mazda brand mark with the round logo created when Toyo Kogyo was first formed. The logo features on the front fender, key fob, wheel caps, head rests and floor mats.
Mazda plans on dropping them in Australia later this year, stay tuned for more.
