We finally have a glimpse of the estate version of the facelifted third-generation Mazda6, with the official debut set to take place next month at the Geneva Motor Show, supplementing the updated saloon revealed at the 2017 L.A Motor Show.

So far as we can tell, there shouldn’t be anything mechanically different about the new Mazda6 wagon over the sedan, likely even mirroring the more traditional body style in terms of trim levels offered. Shown in these images is an example in Mazda’s Machine Grey metallic finish with the requisite 19-inch alloys.

Under the bonnet, therefore, there should be the 2.5-litre turbocharged SkyActiv-G four-cylinder petrol that first made its market entrance in the CX-9 SUV. It’s expected to be offered in an identical output of 170kW and 420Nm. In most markets, the 2.2-litre turbodiesel SkyActiv-D will also be available.

As we’ve already seen, the updated Mazda6 also comes with a list of subtle styling changes that are quite noticeable when considered as a whole - it’s even marginally more aerodynamic. Inside, the cabin has seen a further revision to emphasise a more minimal but premium-feeling approach, one that incorporates some measure of the organic through the choices of material and textures such as pale wood trim inserts and Ultrasuede.

Mazda has also endeavoured to improved refinement levels by strategically fitting denser sound dampening material as well as more forgiving bushes within the suspension’s stress points. There’s also a larger 8-inch display for the MZD Connect infotainment system to kick off the list of new tech features, continuing with adaptive cruise control, 360-degree view camera, and a more advanced head-up display.

In addition to the new 6 wagon, Mazda will be showcasing their two of their concept cars from the Tokyo Motor Show, namely the beguiling Vision Coupe and Kai Concept. The innovative SkyActiv-X engine will also be on display, which introduces their Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI) technology, the first of its kind introduced for mass production.
