New Engines And Improved Pricing For Revised Mazda CX-7

With a starting price slashed to $33,990 and two new engines, including a diesel, Mazda's revised CX-7 SUV lineup is even more impressive.

Now offering four models, the revised CX-7 incorporates major feature and technical upgrades to enhance an already acclaimed package.

Entry to the new CX-7 lineup is the CX-7 Classic, a front-wheel-drive derivative (the rest are all-wheel drive) powered by a 2.5-litre four cylinder petrol engine with 120kW/205Nm. Drive is via a five-speed automatic transmission.

Aided by its 2WD configuration, the entry-level CX-7 delivers fuel economy of 9.4l/100kms.

Next up is the CX-7 Classic Sports ($38,990 - $2,975 less than the outgoing model) and the Luxury Sports ($45,990 - $1,940 less than its predecessor) both are powered by the current 2.3-litre turbocharged four cylinder good for 175kW/350Nm. Drive is via a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Luxury Sports gains 19-inch alloy wheels, a glass sunroof, a 4.1-inch colour multi information display with satellite navigation, upgraded Bose nine-speaker audio with Bluetooth compatibility and power front seats.

Mazda's new diesel option is called CX-7 Diesel Sports and is priced at $43,640. Its 2.2-litre four cylinder 16-valve DOHC intercooled turbo-diesel powerplant provides 127kW/400Nm. Drive is via a six-speed manual transmission.

Mazda says the diesel's fuel economy is 7.6l/100kms and C02 emissions are 202g/km. The exhaust emissions are kept low by its Selective Catalytic Reduction system - an ammonia additive is injected into the catalytic converter which breaks down NOx gases into nitrogen and water.

Specification levels for the diesel mirror the petrol-powered Luxury Sports model.

Styling changes on the outside include a new front grille, new bumpers, new alloy wheels and a larger rear spoiler.

Inside, the new CX-7 features a new dashboard and steering wheel, enhanced sound-proofing to reduce NVH, more luxurious trim materials and extra chrome finishes.

Mazda has also stiffened the bodyshell and underfloor for enhanced ride and handling.

CX-7 is comprehensively equipped with standard features such as Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Traction Control, ABS anti-lock brakes and eight airbags.
