Top exhaust exits are McLaren’s favourite flavour of the month, it seems, as a new teaser photo for their upcoming hardcore Sports Series vehicle - purportedly called the 570LT - shows dual exhaust ports growing out the car’s carbon fibre top deck.
The other McLaren car known for such a waste disposal solution is the Senna, and that’s slowly dawning on the world as the quickest, most brutal car to come out of the company’s technology centre in Woking.
We previously knew that this hopped-up 570 was going to be a bit special when the company released an initial teaser showing its rear end, conveniently missing its exhaust which used to blend nicely next to the diffuser.
Little else is known about the car except that it will be a Sports Series product that will be sit above the 570S in the hierarchy but won’t be so powerful and potently quick that it eclipses the cars in McLaren’s step-up tier, the Super Series, which is where cars like the 720S reside.
So, more than a 570S but less than 720S. Seems like we’ve got ourselves a little game here. Should the 570LT’s power outputs sit dead in the centre, it’s 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 should produce around 645hp, or 481kW. Torque, meanwhile, should rest at around 690Nm.
In that case, because McLaren are so very creative with names (each car being named after its horsepower rating - 650S, 720S, 540C, 570GT….), this new car should thusly be called the 645LT.
Time will tell if our little prediction proves accurate. No matter the case, the McLaren 570LT is bound to be one of the fastest and most impressive cars around a circuit upon its release, perhaps even besting the 720S due to having its more compact body and lighter weight compensate for the deficit in sheer output.
The car itself seems to be nearly complete, and McLaren is slowly building up hype for its slated reveal at the upcoming 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed next month.
