For those in the know, the McLaren Senna is already quite a handful. It’s a light-weight performance-centric super sports car that bears one of the most haloed names in motorsport. When the Senna left the confines of Woking, it was already a first-class track weapon, but the guys from Bavarian tuning firm, Novitec, reckoned it had more to give.
As a recap, the limited-to-500 units McLaren Senna ships from Woking with a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged flat-plane crank V8 engine that’s capable of producing 588kW of power, along with a peak torque figure of 800Nm. Even for the best of us, that is more than adequate grunt for attacking corners and hunting apexes. But, even with a rap sheet that impressive, the Senna wasn’t safe from Novitec’s hand.
The German tuners have devised a performance module for the Senna that will crank its output skyward. They offer three stages of tuning, each more potent than the last. “All three performance kits use the plug-and-play Novitec N-Tronic module, which is adapted to the electronic engine control unit and introduces new mapping for injection and ignition as well as a modified electronic boost pressure control,” said the firm.
The third stage of tuning squeezes out an additional 75kW of juice from the bent-eight engine along with 88Nm of torque. The tuning see’s the McLaren Senna develop 663kW at 7,100 rpm and 888Nm of twist at 6,300 rpm.
The effect from this tune is profound as the Senna can now sling itself from rest to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds and will hit 200 km/h in 6.5 seconds. The top speed, is 335 km/h. This is thanks to its new power-to-weight ratio of 554kW per metric ton (dry weight). Simply staggering.
This ferocious power isn’t had by just electronic tuning alone but by means of a performance upgrade too. The Senna’s breathing is further optimised by the addition of a Novitec Race GTR exhaust system, which is made from an ultralight weight alloy material called Inconel. This oxidation-corrosion-resistant superalloy is able to cope under extreme heat and pressure, which is why it is used in Formula One component construction. Additionally, the two 95mm top-exit exhausts receive either a polished stainless or matte black finish.
Elsewhere, the Senna’s aero-optimised bodywork remain largely untouched, save for the set of bespoke centre-locking alloy wheels. Yes, Novitec partnered up with renowned manufacturer of high-end wheels, Vossen, to develop them. Measuring 20-inches up front and 21-inches out back, the seven twin-spoke wheels are shod with Pirelli P-Zero rubbers measuring 255/30 ZR20 and 325/25 ZR21 front and rear respectively. The firm says the wheels can be had in a total of 72 different colours.
While Novitec has left the body of McLaren’s most aerodynamically complex road car alone, they will, however, customise the interior to your heart’s content. When it comes to the interior, the only hurdle is the extent of your imagination and chequebook, obviously.
