Plug-in hybrid technology has arrived for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class range with the Detroit Auto Show debut of the C 350 Plug-In Hybrid.
As you’d expect from ‘Benz the result is spectacular with both C 350 Plug-In Hybrid sedan and estate models boasting fuel consumption of just 2.1l/100kms.
And there is minimal disruption to the practicality of either with the 6.2kWh battery pack (with its own water cooling system) mounted at the rear axle.
Under the bonnet is Mercedes’ 155kW/350Nm turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 60kW/340Nm electric motor (that’s a combined 205kW/600Nm!) – all driving the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission.
Mercedes-Benz says the C 350 Plug-In Hybrid is good for 31kms and a top speed of 130km/h on pure electric power.
Re-charging from home takes two hours (less with a wall box system).
