Great news for fans of Mercedes-Benz’ superb SLK roadster - affordability is now better than ever with the all-new model lineup now on-sale and priced from $82,900 ($8,550 less than the previous model’s starting price).
The third generation ‘Benz SLK debuts the company’s Magic Sky Control glass roof with one-switch changes from dark to light.
Initially the engine choice includes the 1.8-litre, four-cylinder SLK 200 BlueEFFICIENCY with 135kW and the 3.6-litre, V6 SLK BlueEFFICIENCY with 225kW. Driving through Mercedes’ superb 7G-TRONIC seven-speed automatic transmission, the SLK200 returns combined cycle fuel consumption of just 6.9l/100kms – 1.1/100kms better than the superseded SLK200 Kompressor.
Mercedes’ stylists have crafted a magnificent new look for the SLK – the classic proportions remain but this time with a few more curves and the dynamic new hallmark ‘Benz grille. You can select from three roof designs – a painted version in body colour, a tinted polycarbonate panoramic roof or the all-new version with Magic Sky Control (virtually clear for almost open-top driving even in winter or a dark state for harsh summer days).
‘Benz has also updated its Airguide draught-stop system, this time incorporating transparent Perspex sections between the roll-over bars which are simply swung forwards to the centre of the car to re-direct turbulent air.
Safety features step up with standard fitment of Attention Assist, Mercedes’ brilliant driver drowsiness detection system.
On the options list is Mercedes’ Dynamic Handling package which includes electronically controlled automatic damping and torque vectoring brakes.
The full range (currently) is:
