Mercedes-Benz Vans Australia has today announced the availability of its most ‘adventurous’ product in its range, the Marco Polo ACTIVITY.
To those who might not be familiar with the name (to be honest, we weren’t either), the Marco Polo ACTIVITY is basically a camper-esque adventure-van. Think more 80’s Volkswagen Combi than Toyota Hiace, and you’re about there. The Marco Polo ACTIVITY starts out in life as an innocent V-Class people mover, and then gets a thorough working-over by some people that we suspect MB keeps away from civilisation for long periods at a time.
Once the isolated engineers are done with it, you get the ultimate statement in ‘glamping.’ This diesel behemoth is less of a camper van than a mobile home, and comes with everything but the kitchen sink. The two front seats swivel to face the other three (yes, just three), while the rear bench can be folded down to make a flat sleeping space, big enough for two.
But this van sleeps four. The other two, would you believe it, sleep in the roof. The Marco Polo ACTIVITY comes with a manual pop-up roof, that is made from “breathable, water-resistant fabric.” There are zippered windows on either side of the ‘upstairs bedroom,’ ensuring excellent ventilation should that be required.
Although it is still a van, it is also still a Mercedes-Benz. There’s “luxury interior trim,” a 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission, a plethora of airbags, and even active safety tech like Crosswind Assist, Adaptive Electronic Stability Program, and ATTENTION Assist, which can detect driver drowsiness. The options list is typically Mercedes-Benz too, with ‘Black Lugano’ leather trim, a manual side awning, and 18” alloy wheels as specifiable add-ons.
At present, the Marco Polo ACTIVITY is slated for introduction sometime in Q3 2017, with a sticker price of $69,990 (excl. ORC). Fancy a glamping trip, anyone?
