British sports car brand MG has garnered the ‘Best Concept’ award at the Beijing Motor Show for its ground-breaking Icon – the company’s first SUV.
In capturing the award, the MG Icon headed-off credentialed rivals such as the Lamborghini Urus and Mercedes-Benz Concept Style Coupe.
While there are currently no plans for the Icon concept car to join the MG product portfolio, credit was justified for the company’s global design team, headed by Brit Anthony Williams-Kenny.
The MG Icon delivers a fresh new look for SUVs while also remaining true to MG’s sports car and motorsport history with its classic red and white colours.
Expat Australian journalist Greg Kable, now based in Germany, was one of the judges and he said: “The Icon continues MG’s resurrection under parent company SAIC Motor, bringing newly interpreted heritage style to the compact SUV ranks in a package that will see it compete directly against the likes of Nissan Juke and MINI Countryman.”
