To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the premiere of the first MINI Convertible back in the early 1990s when they were still under the Rover Group. Now, the BMW-owned marque has announced a special limited edition run of the Convertible to mark the milestone.
Based on the Cooper S variant of the current MINI Convertible, just 300 examples will be made, adorned with unique touches to commemorate the original’s emergence. It’s only available with new 18-inch two-tone wheels and a Starlight Blue metallic exterior finish with contrasting white white stripes on the bonnet. With the roof up, there’s a greyed-out Union Jack pattern observable from the top, matching the new-pattern tail lamps.
Otherwise, the MINI Convertible 25th Anniversary Edition is broadly identical to the standard car, albeit the one in top-spec guise. This means a premium leather interior in a unique Satellite Grey colour, satellite navigation, and a Harman/Kardon stereo.
Under the bonnet, the Cooper S formula has emerged undisturbed, meaning a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder outputs 143kW and 280Nm to drive the front wheels. The little drop top is capable of sailing past 100km/h in 7.2 seconds from a stand still and on to a top speed of around 230km/h.
In the UK, which is where all 300 units will be sold exclusively, MINI is charging a rather substantial £32,995 (~$60,000 Australian Dollars), which is in the vicinity of £9,000 (~AU$16,000) more than the standard Cooper S Convertible.
