Mitsubishi Motors Australia has issued a recall that effects over 20,000 NT and NW Pajeros that were sold between January 2010 to May 2014 that stems from the broader campaign to replace potentially faulty airbags supplied by Takata that other automakers are also endeavouring toward around the world.
Here, Mitsubishi has detailed the potential risks that can be substituted as a blanket description for all the vehicles involved in this large scale recall: “The passenger front airbag inflator may release metallic fragments from the inflator container when the airbag deploys.”
Obviously, injury to vehicle occupants in the event that this manufacturing defect does materialise. It has already been the contributing factor to a number of deaths, usually amplified by the fact that it would compound the physical trauma caused by the collision itself to which the airbag was meant to alleviate.
Owners of the Pajeros involved will be contacted by Mitsubishi by mail to have their vehicle brought in to the nearest dealer for a proper fix. Alternatively, they can also call 1300 131 211, contact their dealer directly, or visit Mitsubishi Australia on the web here to find the nearest one.
