The NSW-based NRMA’s annual survey of vehicle running costs has concluded the Mitsubishi Mirage is Australia’s cheapest car to own and run.
Priced from just $12,990, the Mirage is powered by Mitsubishi’s impressive 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine which delivers 57kW/100Nm and returns combined cycle fuel consumption of just 4.6l/100kms.
The ‘winner’ was the entry-grade Mirage ES five-speed manual which the NRMA found has running costs of $93.29 per week.
Good news for consumers is Mitsubishi’s support package for the Mirage – 5 year/130,000kms warranty, capped-price servicing for the first four years/60,000kms and five years of roadside assistance.
It’s not an ‘old chestnut’ – there really has been no better time than the present (interest rates at historic lows, 61 brands competing for business in a market just over 1.0-lioon ales per year) to buy a new car.
