Everyone gets a plug point!
Japanese marque Mitsubishi has announced a round of updates for its well-received Pajero Sport SUV, one of the most distinctive-looking cars in its segment and certainly one of the best. Knowing that quite a number of these cars are sold based on its looks alone, Mitsubishi understandably (if unadventurously) left the styling alone, and instead looked to the kit list to make improvements.
The revisions have resulted in the debut of a new variant, and improvements to the standard safety features on all cars. Where the 2017 model was only offered with 5-seats in the base GLX, the 2018 update introduces a 5-seat mid-range Pajero Sport GLS, providing the option for more cargo space and more kit for those who really, really don’t want the extra pair of seats in the back.
Further, all cars now get forward collision mitigation (AEB, essentially) and adaptive cruise control, adding more peace of mind to drivers and passengers.
The cabin features enormous improvements too, in the form of… “soft-finish side-console trim” (softer plastics for the central tunnel, in non-marketing speak) and illuminated driver and passenger vanity mirrors.
Mitsubishi has also thrown in a whole bunch of charging solutions, with two USB ports for the rear seats, and even a 150W/220V three-pin plug-socket for GLS and Exceed models, so the ‘my phone died’ excuse won’t fly with either spouse or boss if you’ve got a Pajero Sport.
No mechanical changes have been lavished on the Pajero Sport, so you’ll find the familiar (and well-liked) 2.4-litre turbo-diesel that you’ll find in other Mitsubishi models too. Power output is rated at 133kW/430Nm, with motivation going to all-four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard. Also standard across the range are things like a low-range gear option and central differential lock for really tough terrain, though GLS and Exceed models get an additional rear diff.
The 2018 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is on sale now, with the GLX set at $45,500, the GLS 5-Seater for $48,500, the GLS 7-Seater for $49,500, and topping out at $53,650 for the flagship Exceed. All prices are accurate at the time of writing and exclude various on-road costs.
