Renowned British tuner, Mountune, has just outed a bit of wizardry that’s bound to make Ford Focus ST owners giddy with glee. Sadly, in Australia, this generation of the Focus ST and Fiesta ST will not be receiving the tuning kit, even though the kit was previously available through Aussie Ford dealerships for previous generations of those models. Even North America gets a pass on the kit.

“We’re delighted to finally launch the m330 package, enhancing power and performance to what is an already great car,” explains Alec Pell-Johnson, Director of mountune performance. “Both the m225 and m235 kits have been hugely successful since they launched, with customers loving how easy it is to change the calibration of their car direct from their smartphone. SMARTflash is the future of calibration upgrades and we are looking forward to seeing how our customers receive our latest upgrade for the Mk4 Focus ST.”

The kit in question here is called the Mountune m330 and what it does to the Mk4 Focus ST is unlock an additional 37kW and 95Nm from its 2.3-litre EcoBoost mill. The blown four-cylinder is then claimed to produce 243kW and 515Nm of torque. All of which is transferred to the front axle.

Even better than that, is the fact that the tuning kit does not require evasive work to be done to the engine. Rather the kit can be loaded on by the end user. All that’s needed is the mTune SMARTflash app on their smartphone and the supplied Bluetooth OBD interface. It’s simply plug and play.

Further, the tuning kit receives features such as no-lift shift, an enhanced exhaust overrun with more crackle and backfiring and quiet sport mode. Additionally, there are three distinct calibrations including Performance, Stock and Anti-Theft. The former delivers the abovementioned power gain alongside a more aggressive launch control strategy. Stock on the other hand returns the car to its factory configuration while Anti-Theft fully immobilises the car.

The Mountune m330 pack – which retails for £599 (AU$1,215) – gets customers a SMARTflash EVI Bluetooth OBD adapter, mTune SMARTflash smartphone app (for both Android OS and iOS) and a high-flow panel air filter.
