McLaren cars, while being exciting and emotive, has always carried around abit of a reputation for being rather clinical. The McLaren Production Centre in Woking looks more like a laboratory then it does a supercar factory.
That said, the British sports car maker does have an exceptional personalisation department which deals with realising their customers most insane requests and delivering on it. Lately, the folks at McLaren Special Operations (MSO) have been devoting their attention to their new GT model and what we see here is what they’re calling the Verdant Theme GT and let’s not muck about, it looks brilliant.
The first thing that comes to this writer’s mind is the brilliance of watching the bright green flashes of light dancing across the polar sky. Just like how light blends with the inky black of the heavens when watching the Aurora Australis, is how McLaren has blended shades of green to seamlessly graduate from light to dark.
MSO’s satin tri-color paintjob, which blends three shades of green namely: Horsell Green, Arbor and Steppe Green, takes an unbelievable 430 hours of painstaking work to achieve. MSO also goes on to say that it is one of the most complex paint processes yet undertaken.
The exterior of the Verdant Theme GT is finished off by the addition of hand-painted pinstripe accents in Napier Green on the body and the front splitter. The brake calipers were also given the MSO treatment and are painted in Napier Green while the MSO Black Pack guarantees the most dramatic of contrasts with gloss black finish for the wheels, the upper window surround and the exhaust finisher, said the brand.
The interior also receives equal amounts of attention, with key areas trimmed in cashmere, which is a first for the marque. The charcoal grey fabric adorns the centre tunnel, door inserts, lower section of the dashboard, sun visors, head restraints and the back upper section of the seats, which get Lauren Green leather with contrast micro-piping. Elsewhere there’s an exclusive plaque, embroidered logos and an MSO logo laser-etched onto the accelerator pedal.
No changes have been made to the GT’s powerplant, which still employs a 462kW, 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that’s mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Woking-based company says the GT will still do the century sprint in just 3.2 seconds while offering up touring comfort and refinement.
