Thanks to clever negotiating between Wolfsburg & Volkswagen Australia, the latter is excited to announce that for the 2019 model-year, the fabulous Golf GTI will be available at a sharper price than before. Where it used to retail for $45,490, the MY19 Golf GTI can be had for $47,990 drive-away, including VW’s recently-introduced 5-year/unlimited-mileage warranty.
With spec unchanged, the MY19 Golf GTI continues to soldier into our market wearing the Performance-pack tuning, so expect 180kW and 370Nm from the 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-pot engine, with power going to the front wheels via a standard-fit 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. Thanks to that Performance-pack, our cars also benefit from an electromechanical front diff-lock, as well as larger brakes.
The Driver Assist Package remains standard equipment here, so you get adaptive cruise, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist (active), rear cross-traffic alert, and semi-automated parking assistance. This is of course on top of the AEB and reversing camera, kit that all new Golf’s get anyway.
Inside, MY19 Golf’s continue with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8.0-inch infotainment screen (with smartphone mirroring), tartan fabric upholstery, and keyless entry-and-go. You also get 18-inch alloy wheels, which are nice.
But what we’d suggest you do is spend an additional $2300 on the ‘Sound & Style’ package that throws in 19-inch alloys, a 9.2-inch infotainment display with Gesture Control, a 400W Dynaudio Excite audio system, and voice control. Mostly it’s just the alloys. But if you have another $3900 burning a hole in your pocket you can add the ‘Luxury’ package which adds Vienna leather upholstery with red contrast piping, electric drivers seat with memory function, heated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
