Alfa Romeo Australia has launched a turbocharged version of its stylish Brera – the final chapter in the story of this evocatively-styled coupe.

The latest Brera scores Alfa’s turbocharged 1750 TBi engine plus 19-inch alloy wheels and beautiful Pieno Fiore leather seats (electrically adjustable), but is priced at $64,990 – the same as its naturally aspirated 2.2-litre predecessor.

As you would expect, performance is up – the turbocharged 1.7-litre delivering 147kW at 5,000rpm and 320Nm from 1,400rpm. That delivers zero to 100km/h in 7.7 seconds – almost one second better than the old version.

The Euro IV-compliant turbocharged engine is also ahead in fuel consumption – down to 8.1l/100kms.

Alfa says the lighter weight of the new 1.7-litre engine also translates into sharper ride and handling for the gorgeous Brera.

Brera’s range-topping 3.2 JTS V6 Q-Tronic also gains some extra goodies but enjoys an $11,000 price cut to $79,990.
