Hyundai has revealed a new high-tech 5.0-litre direct injection V8 engine to power its 2012 model year Genesis luxury sedan in North America.
Genesis is a full-size luxury vehicle which was acclaimed as the 2009 North American Car of the Year, but sadly it’s unlikely a right-hand-drive version will find its way downunder.
The new ‘Tau’ V8 joins the existing 3.8-litre V6 unit in the latest Genisis lineup.
And with 320kW, the V8 is the most powerful Hyundai engine yet. It will be fitted exclusively to the range-topping R-Spec 2012 Genesis which features 19-inch alloy wheels, sports tuned suspension and steering, uprated brakes, three exclusive exterior colours, and black leather interior (plus optional Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 performance tyres).
In another first, the 2012 Genesis drives through Hyundai’s own eight-speed automatic transmission.
Overall, the latest Genesis also boasts improved styling with a more aggressive front end plus extra technology and safety inside.
Now if only Hyundai would build it for Australia.
