Nissan has taken a bold approach to win the hearts of young, affluent Chinese new car buyers with its ‘Friend-Me’ concept four-door sedan unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show.
Athletic, bold and sculptured, the Nissan ‘Friend-Me’ was styled at Nissan’s design studio in Beijing and is said to address “the social dynamics of Chinese men in their mid-20s” (according to Nissan). It’s a massive market with some 240 million Chinese born in the 1980s.
Specifically, the Nissan ‘Friend-Me’ caters to a generation which grew-up without siblings and so spend their leisure time with friends. Hence the interior which provides private space for four people.
There’s an onyx-black high centre console running from the front to the rear and each seat has a screen which is interconnected so occupants can share on-line content on the go and even choose the music playing over the audio system.
However Nissan says this startling concept does have global relevance – the low, wide stance, short overhangs and energetic style perhaps heralding a new direction for four-door sedans.
