At a whisker under $31k, it’s not half bad.
For the 2019 model year, Nissan has fielded a new contender to sharpen its Qashqai lineup locally, in a bid to keep the ‘sensible option’ within spitting distance of the more imaginative contenders in the segment. The Qashqai ST+ isn’t meant to set your heart on fire though – instead, it’s going back to the tried and true Nissan tenets of value & sensibility above all else, except now with added ride height.
The ST+ is based on the entry-level ST, and commands a $1300 premium for the pleasure (over an ST auto). But you do get quite a bit of kit as standard over an ST, among which is the Xtronic CVT automatic which if we’re honest, is one of the best not-a-gearbox gearboxes out there. It makes full use of the 106kW/200Nm naturally-aspirated donk behind the badge, allowing it to be both responsive and frugal (and unless you’re flooring it, muted).
Being based on the ST means the standard kit you got there is also present in the ST+. That means things like 17-inch alloys, LED daytime running lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Bluetooth audio streaming, keyless entry & go, and an electric parking brake with auto hold. The ST+ adds (ahem) things like a 7.0-inch touchscreen, DAB digital radio, 360º cameras with moving-object detection, power-folding heated side mirrors, privacy glass, and satellite navigation with live traffic updates. Not bad, right?
And of course you get the usual array of airbags, sensors, ISOFIX mounts, and autonomous emergency braking. You also get forward collision warning and lane departure warning, which is nice to have.
