Showcasing the future of electric mobility.
Japanese marque Nissan may be in the midst of turmoil following the surprise ousting of chairman Carlos Ghosn, they’re not slowing down in any shape or form. That’s evident with the arrival of the Leaf Nismo racecar, which manages to offer major performance benefits, while utilising the same battery as the production model.
The Leaf Nismo RC will be making its debut at the Nismo Festival, which will be taking place at the Fuji International Speedway. There, it’ll enthral audiences with its incredible 240kW & 640Nm output, thanks to two motors that send power to all-four wheels.
“The all-new Leaf Nismo RC shows how we’re setting our sights even higher when it comes to raw power & performance, making electric vehicles more exciting for customers.” — Daniele Schillaci, Head of Marketing & Sales (Electric Vehicles, Global), Nissan Motor Corporation
Despite the weight of the batteries & electric motors, by utilising a fully-carbon fibre monocoque design, the Leaf Nismo RC manages to weigh in at just 1220kg. That’s amazingly light for an electric car, and highly impressive for the Leaf Nismo RC, as the standard car weighs about 1557kg.
The Nissan Leaf Nismo RC looks very much like the Leaf it’s born from, sans for a bespoke iteration of Nissan’s ‘V-Motion’ grille, black/silver paint scheme, and dashes of red. They won’t be birthing their own race series though (as how the Jaguar I-Pace has); Just six of these cars will be made, and they’ll be deployed alongside Nissan’s existing Formula E schedule around the world.
