The Peugeot 308 GTi is one of the more uncommon breeds of hot hatchbacks, but certainly without being inferior to the more common or garden Golf GTIs or Focus STs. Now, Australian buyers will be able to get their hands on a limited run version of the fast French five-door called the Sport.
Just 20 of these examples will be available locally and are available now for $42,990 (plus on-road costs) which Peugeot says represents a savings of $3,500. The primary distinguishing factor to the 308 GTi Sport is the more aggressive five-piece body kit that adds a new front spoiler, rear ‘Gurney flap’ spoiler, rear bumper corner extensions, side skirt extensions, and a new rear diffuser element.
What’s more is that the car comes with a complementary driver training course conducted by Driving Dynamics worth $200, hosted in Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney with Queensland and Western Australia to be added calendar in the near future.
Apart from the metallic black exterior colour seen here, the 308 GTi Sport is also available in Artense Grey and Magnetic Blue, albeit in smaller quantities. Mechanically, though, there doesn’t seem to be any difference over the standard 308 GTi.
Under its bonnet lives a 1.6-litre Prince engine, turbocharged to 200kW and mated to a 6-speed manual transmissions that sends power to the front wheels via a Torsen limited slip differential. The 1,205kg kerb weight and gutsy engine means that the century sprint is dealt with in just 6.0 seconds.
As before, 19-inch wheels are standard, shod in grippy Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres, as are a full assortment of equipment including a 9.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, full LED headlights, and even Peugeot Sport bucket seats with massage functions.
Active and passive safety features are also here in full force, with the 308 GTi Sport featuring Active Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist, Driver Attention Alert, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, City Park Assist, and speed limit sign recognition.
