Totally wasn’t leaked a month ago. Yeah.
Today, Peugeot pulled the wraps off of its facelifted 308, a revised version of an award-winning car that has received critical acclaim the world over. They may be calling it a “new-generation” model, but we can assure you that this is just a facelift. And a minor one at that, if you haven’t already noticed.
The 308 was already a good looking thing, so it comes to no surprise that they’re not taking chances by mucking it up. The fascia sees minor revisions to bring it bang up to date with the latest Peugeot offerings, with a more upright nose and a sharper front bumper. With the update, Peugeot claims that the 308 will now receive an “LED light signature at all trim levels,” suggesting that the LED-less entry-level models will see upgrades.
The cabin, which also remains largely untouched, sees revisions to its iCockpit infotainment system. Smartphone mirroring is now available, along with a “rapid-response” 3D satellite navigation system with voice control and live traffic updates. The new 308 will also get ‘Visiopark 1,’ which bundles a reversing camera along with autonomous parking. The driver assistance features continue, with things like ‘Active Safety Brake’ (or autonomous emergency braking to you and I), active lane departure warning, and active cruise control which can bring the car to a complete halt (for automatic-transmission models; only 30km/h for manual units).
The drivetrain has seem some revisions, too. The BlueHDi 180 diesel (exclusive to the 308GT) is now paired to a brand-new EAT8 eight-speed automatic transmission developed by Aisin. This is joined by a brand-new oiler, in the form of the BlueHDi 130. No further details were given, but Peugeot is keen to stress that they are “one of the first automakers to anticipate on introduction of the Euro 6.c standard,” which should prevent any sort of ‘Dieselgate’ fiasco in the future.
At the time of writing, Peugeot Australia has yet to provide any comments on the facelifted 308, though we don’t expect it to be too long before it arrives on our shores. Expect it in time for the 2018 model year.
