Car enthusiast who’ve kept an eye on the latest crop of hypercars that have been outed in the past couple of years would’ve definitely noticed the Pininfarina Battista, which is a pure-electric hyper GT which was revealed at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show. What you see here however, is what’s called the Anniversario edition and as headlined, only five specimens will be manufactured from the original Battista pool of 150 units.

“My grandfather always had the vision that one day, there would be a stand-alone range of Pininfarina-branded cars. The Battista Anniversario, named in his honour to mark 90 years of the carrozzeria that he started, is a glorious way to link our past with the future of motoring” said Paolo Pininfarina, Chairman, Pininfarina SpA.

The Battista Anniversario celebrates nine decades since Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina created the legendary Pininfarina coachbuilder and design house, and is now producing the most powerful sports car ever to be designed and built in Italy, claims the company. Maranello can’t be happy with that statement.

The Battista Anniversario is equipped with the ‘Furiosa’ package, which is available to specify on any Battista, including a revised carbon fibre front splitter, side blades and rear diffuser. Exclusively on the Anniversario, these parts are finished in a two-tone combination of exposed carbon fibre and carbon tinted in Iconica Blu with pin stripes in Bianco Sestriere.

Besides the livery, a bespoke rear wing, rear aero fins and other bespoke details are unique to the Battista Anniversario as well. The aerodynamics that’s enabled by the Furiosa pack, increases downforce, stability at high cornering speeds and dynamic balance to the car. But, when it comes to power, this hyper GT is from another realm.

The Anniversario shares the same technical underpinnings as the ‘standard car’. Its carbon fibre monocoque chassis and body provide the strong foundation and backbone of the hyper GT, with its four electric motors generating 1,416kW and 2,300 Nm. Yes, you read that right, both those figures have four digits each. Power and torque to each wheel is distributed using an advanced torque vectoring system.

This colossal reserve of power also translates to nonsensical performance times as well. Foot flat to the floor and it’ll rocket the car to 100km/h in less than 2 seconds, and onto a top speed of 350km/h.  Apparently, it’ll dash from 0-300km/h in less than 12 seconds. That’s insane. The company also goes on to say that performance like that is simply unachievable in any road-legal car with an internal combustion engine. They’re also saying that it’ll do the century sprint faster than a current Formula One car.

“I have piloted the quickest road and race cars in the world. I’ve never driven anything as powerful as the Battista. The Battista is faster than many race cars, but it is not a pure racing machine. Drivability in all situations is its primary focus. We will now concentrate our time testing and developing Battista to deliver a car that’s at the forefront of technological possibilities and innovation” said former Formula One driver and current test and development Driver for Automobili Pininfarina, Nick Heidfeld.

Supplying power to the four electric motors is a liquid-cooled 120kWh lithium-ion battery pack that’s sourced from Croatian EV maker, Rimac. Alongside the ludicrous performance, this hyper GT has a range of 500km, which isn’t bad at all.

Weight and unsprung mass have always been the adversary for sports cars. The Anniversario sheds almost 10kg of weight thanks to a new wheel design which features centre-lock forged aluminium wheels. The Anniversario also upsizes its rear wheel to 21-inches from 20 and gains stickier rubber all round.

The Automobili Pininfarina Battista Anniversario will set its potential owner back €2.6 million or $4.43 million Australian dollars. The Italian firm says the hyper GT will enter production and are expected to be with first owners by the end of 2020.
