Stuttgart has just unveiled the refreshed Macan GTS for 2020 which sports an upgraded powerplant along with a subtly enhanced interior and exterior.

The Macan GTS, which stands for Gran Turismo Sport, swaps out its 265kW 3.0-litre twin turbocharged V6 engine for a 2.9-litre biturbo mill that’s also employed in the range topping Turbo model, albeit slightly detuned in the GTS.

In this application, the V6 delivers 280kW – and increase of 15kW over the previous engine’s output. It boasts 520Nm of twist which is 20Nm more than before and is available from just 1,750rpm. The engine utilises a Central Turbo Layout which means the two turbochargers live in between the two cylinder banks, thus increasing throttle response.

The new powerplant is mated to the same 7-speed dual clutch PDK affair as before but has been tweaked slightly for employment in the new GTS. Combine the drivetrain with Porsche’s Sport Chrono Pack and you’ll see it sprint to 100km/h from rest in 4.7 seconds, which is three tenths faster than before. Flat out, it will hit 261km/h.

Bringing this almost 2 and a half tonne (gross) SUV to halt are a set of cast iron brakes measuring 360mm up front and 330mm out back. However, as an option, the brand will offer customers the choice of either Porsche Surface Coated Brakes with tungsten carbide or the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes.

The new Macan GTS comes equipped as standard with Porsche’s Active Suspension Management (PASM) which has been tuned for better driving dynamics, says the brand. The chassis has been lowered by 15mm and can be dropped a further 10mm when specified with the optional Adaptive air suspension.

The new GTS comes as standard with satin-gloss black 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheels that’s wrapped in 265/45 R20 tyres in front while the rear gets rubbers measuring 295/45 R20.

Visually, the GTS’s Sport Design package gets a new front and rear bumper, side skirt and rear diffuser with black trim. The LED headlights, with Porsche Dynamic Light System, along with the LED light bar at the back are also darkened.

Inside, the armrests, door panels and seat centres are finished in Alcantara, while brushed aluminium trim features throughout the cabin. The sports seats are exclusive to the GTS and has eight-way adjustability with pronounced side bolsters which helps keep the driver and front passenger in place when cornering.

The Porsche Macan GTS is slated to arrive in Australia during the first quarter of 2020 at an MSRP of $109,700.
