DS3 Crossback and 2008 SUV to get electrified, too.

During a session with investors and key players, French automotive conglomerate PSA Group said that they will launch full-electric versions of its popular Peugeot 208 hatchback and 2008 SUV, as well as an electric DS3 Crossback, with the trio to be complete by 2020.

The DS3 Crossback will replace the DS3 hatchback that we’re familiar with, and will be offered with a battery-powered variant sometime during the first half of 2019. The 208 (PSA’s hottest product) will launch September 2019 as a full-electric vehicle with internal-combustion variants, packing a 300km real-world range, similar to competitors like the Renault Zoe.

The 2008 SUV will be the last model to receive an electrified powertrain in this strategy, with the EV variant to debut in the first-half of 2020. This will not mark the end of PSA’s electrification assault though, with future plug-in hybrid vehicles to be underpinned by the company’s new EMP2 modular platform, which was designed from the outset with electric and hybrid powertrains in mind. The DS7 Crossback (due 2019), Peugeot 5008 and Citroën C5 Aircross will receive plug-in hybrid powertrains in the future, along with cars like the Peugeot 3008 and Vauxhall Grandland X.

Under the ‘Push to Pass’ strategy put forward by CEO Carlon Tavares, seven plug-in hybrid models and four all-new battery-electric models will come to market by 2021, with some 80% of PSA’s offerings to feature electrified variants by 2023.

This aggressive electrification strategy, brought forwards by industry resource Automotive News Europe, echoes those being adopted by other industry players, with resurgent Swedish carmaker Volvo’s aim to be totally-electrified by 2019 gaining recognition from the United Nations, and the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance pushing to get no less than 12 new electric vehicles introduced in the near future as part of its ‘Vision 2022’ game-plan.
