Squadra Corse’ is Lamborghini’s racing department and the new version of the Gallardo is based on the Gallardo Super Trofeo which is used in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo one-make racing series (watch in on Foxtel’s Speed Channel – it’s fantastic supercar racing!).

The extreme version of the Gallardo we’ll see in Frankfurt inherits much from the actual race cars – including the race-developed version of the V10 engine driving through an six-speed manual transmission and the massive rear wing and engine cover which are both made from carbon-fibre. Like the race cars, the hood features quick-release fasteners so it can be completely removed.

Weight has been pared thanks to extensive use of carbon-fibre and aluminium – the Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse tips the scales at 1340kgs – 70kgs lighter than the standard version.

So, how does zero to 100km/h in just 3.4 seconds sound? Well with 419kW of power at an ear-shattering 8000rpm, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse delivers that supercar time with ease thanks to its all-wheel-drive chassis.

Inside are lightweight carbon-fibre racing seats trimmed in Alcantara. Carbon fibre is also used for the door panels, centre console, steering wheel, instrument panel and even the glovebox. If that’s too extreme for you, normal Gallardo seats are on the options list.
