The Range Rover Evoque has been in production for five years now at Jaguar Land Rover’s manufacturing facility in Halewood near Liverpool in England. In that span, the Evoque has yielded more than half a million sales for JLR throughout the 180 countries it’s sold in, allowing them to proclaim it to be the fastest selling Land Rover of all time.
To be precise, it’s on July 4th that the Evoque celebrates its 5th birthday since it was on that day in 2011 that the first unit rolled off the production line. That year, 22,000 units were sold. That number has increased dramatically year over year, and in 2015 Land Rover sold 108,000.
JLR even released some interesting facts about the Range Rover Evoque’s production process and the assembly staff tasked with meeting consumer demand. As an example, at its peak efficiency, the Halewood plant in 2015 manufactured so many Evoques that one would roll off the production line every 170 seconds.
Other interesting factoids are the employees on shift on those production lines clocking in more than 3 million collective night-shift hours, consuming 668,000 cups of coffee, half a million eggs and 125,000 slices of toast to keep nourished and energised during 8 hour shifts. Its amazing and slightly unsettling that Land Rover actually keeps tabs on that.
More, slight more relevant, numbers include the Trim and Final assembly area in the Halewood plant, where a total of 1.7 billion Evoque parts have been fitted, travelling over 4 million kilometres of conveyor system.
The manufacturing facility has been the recipient of a £600 million investment by JLR and Indian parent company Tata, and earlier this year built started production on what is the first mass produced soft top SUV, the Evoque Convertible.
