General Motors global sales last year grew by 7.6 per cent last year to 9,025,942 vehicles – helped by 4,760,000 sales by Chevrolet (and of course 126,095 by local subsidiary Holden).
For Chevrolet that figure of 4.76-million was a new record.
At home in the U.S. Chevrolet grew its business by 13 per cent with sales of 1,775,812 and sales in China of 595,068 represented an increase of 9.5 per cent over 2010. Other markets delivering impressive growth were Peru (+81 per cent), Vietnam (+79 per cent), Thailand (+57 per cent), South Africa (+50 per cent), Russia (+49 per cent), Israel (+46 per cent), Turkey (+30 per cent) and Germany (+21 per cent).
Winning models for GM included the Cruze small car and mid-size Malibu (due to be launched by Holden this year). Cruze was actually Chevrolet’s best model, racking-up more than 670,000 sales in 2011.
