The Renault Megane RS 280 range for Australia has been strengthened by the introduction of the Cup chassis with the dual-clutch EDC transmission where previously the sportier suspension variant was only available with a six-speed manual transmission.
The self-shifting EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) automatic is more or less the same Getrag-developed dry-type unit in the Clio RS EDC and the Alpine A110, and raises the car’s price to $51,990 excluding on-road costs and retains all else about the car’s characteristics over the more everyday Megane RS 280 Sport such as its 10 percent stiffer suspension thanks to revised springs, dampers, and bump stops.
Also thrown into the mix for added sharpness and response is a Torsen mechanical limited slip differential for the front axle to more effectively distribute power, especially during hard cornering, from the 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and its 205kW/390Nm onslaught.
For these additions to the equipment list as well as the now-standard Bose stereo system and Alcantara/Leather seats, the price of nearly all Megane RS 280 variants have risen by at least $1,000 as they have also been split into individual variants as opposed to the Cup chassis being an optional extra.
As before, though, buyers can also add either the Liquid Yellow or Tonic Orange metallic paint options for an additional $1,000 and a panoramic sunroof for $1,990, though the latter is not specifiable for the entry-level Megane RS 280 Sport with a manual transmission.
