And at a whisker under $50k, it’s a deal.

2018 Renault Koleos Initiale Special Edition

Renault’s well-received Koleos, a family SUV that we rather liked when we reviewed it for its stylish verve and overall refinement, has been given a new flagship trim level for well-heeled buyers who might want even more flash than the already-flashy Koleos offers. Dubbed the ‘Initiale,’ this special edition variant brings with it greater distinction and style, befitting its moniker.

“In 2017, the Koleos became Renault Australia’s best-selling model ever, accounting for 29% of our total sales. The Koleos also topped the sales charts in the Asia-Pacific region. This new Special Edition, called Koleos Initiale, sits above the Intent variant and adds on even more sophistication to this already well-loved nameplate. Priced at $49,490 drive-away, we are confident this vehicle will be a hit with customers.” — Andrew Moore, Managing Director, Renault Australia

The Koleos Initiale builds on the Intens variant, and adds an exclusive paint shade called ‘Black Amethyst,’ as well as 19-inch alloy wheels. This comes in addition to the Pure Vision LED headlights that come as standard with higher-end variants of the Koleos, as does the automatic tailgate and chrome grille.

Move inside the Koleos Initiale, and there are things like fine stitching on the leather. That adds on to the already-generous kit list that the Intens offers, including a panoramic sunroof, front seats with heating and ventilation, automatic headlights and wipers, dual-zone climate control, ‘Multi-Sense’ wth cabin lighting, an 8.7-inch portrait oriented infotainment screen, and an R-Link 2 system that includes sat-nav, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ad well as bluetooth streaming.

Active driver assistance (ADAS) systems also get tacked onto the Koleos Initiale, which features autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, lane departure alert, and hill-hold assist. A rear camera, all-round sensors, and an automatically-dimming rear view mirror completes the list.
