Renault Australia has bolstered its SUV line up with the introduction of the Kadjar compact crossover SUV for the upcoming model year, which positions itself in between the pint-sized Captur and larger Koleos. The brand has shifted over 450,000 units of the Kadjar worldwide prior to its 2020 Aussie debut, said its national Managing Director, Anouk Poelmann.
Beneath the skin, it employs the Renault-Nissan Common Module Family platform that’s shared by the likes of the Koleos, Nissan Qashqai, and plenty of other vehicles across the group. Upon its local arrival, the Kadjar will be offered in three trim levels - Life, Zen and Intens. The trio are offered with a sole engine and transmission option.
The option in question is the 1.3-litre turbocharged mill developed in collaboration with Daimler to drive the front wheels, delivering 117kW and 260Nm of torque to the road via its seven-speed dual-clutch EDC gearbox.
On the outside, the Kadjar is adorned in chrome and robust-looking plastic trimmings all round. Further complementing its appearance are 17 and 19-inch alloy wheels along with its C-shaped daytime running lights. The range-topping Intens receives LEDs for its headlights, automatic high beam and fog lamps.
Depending on the variant level selected, customers receive either a fabric, faux leather or leather-wrapped interior, though all share a 7-inch RLINK 2 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. However, in-built satellite navigation isn’t included on the base variant. Renault also offers a Bose sound system as an optional extra on the Kadjar.
The entire range is equipped with driver assist tech such as Hill Start Assist, Electric Stability Control, Anti-lock Braking System, Emergency Brake Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, front and rear parking sensors, rear parking camera and cruise control with speed limiter. Additionally, the Zen and Intens variants get Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, side parking sensors while the Intens gets Easy Park Assist.
The Renault Kadjar gets a five-year unlimited mileage warranty with service intervals of 30,000km or 12 month (whichever comes first).
