Renault Australia has decided that non-RS versions of the Megane will be shown the blade. Standing before the guillotine are the GT and GT-Line variants, this leaves the range exclusively in the hand of the full-fat RS versions.
The fourth-generation Megane has grown up to be quite the looker and performer but the GT and GT-Line just couldn’t pull folks away from their rivals. Sales figures showed that Aussies weren’t swayed by just good looks.
Earlier this year we reported that the brand had only managed to move 15 non-RS Meganes while 155 units of the hot variant were sold in the first half of 2019. With dwindling demand for hatchbacks (in this market), it made no financial sense for the brand to keep them on the roster.
However, it’s still not too late for buyers looking to score a non-RS Megane as the company will continue to sell whatever they have left in stock, but once that runs out, no more will be imported.
With this spring cleaning done, the Megane range will compromise of only performance hatchbacks.
