Renault's local arm has just announced that they'll be availing a retrofit kit for select Koleos II variants. The smartphone mirroring kit can be ordered via Renault Australia’s dealer network and takes about an hour to install.
“We are incredibly excited to be able to offer this Apple Carplay/Android Auto retrofit kit which will ensure more Koleos owners than ever before will be able to stay entertained and in touch with contacts in the safest way possible while driving their vehicle,” Matthew Wright, Aftersales and Quality Director, Renault Australia said.
“This retrofit kit is being launched globally first in Australia and is a direct result of the team at Renault Australia wanting to ensure that Renault vehicles are fitted with products that continue to provide drivers with an easy life in an ever increasing technology driven marketplace,” he continued.
Owners of select Koleos II variants built prior to September 2017 will be eligible for the kit. The brand is charging owners $486.40 to have their R-Link 2 infotainment system’s hardware and software upgraded to support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
As mentioned, Australia is the first market in the world for the brand’s retrofit kit, which was developed by Renault Australia together with a team of Renault engineers in Korea. However, while the retrofit will be compatible with 7 and 8.7-inch touchscreen units, it will not have full-screen support.
The French manufacturer will be digging into its customer database and reaching out to eligible Koleos II owners in early 2020. That said, interested owners of these vehicles are encouraged by the brand to reach out to their preferred dealership for eligibility confirmation and booking information.
